Functional Medicine Nutritionist & Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner
Megan Murphy-Rouse M.S., C.N., C.A.P. is a National Ayurvedic Medical Association Board Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner and Licensed Nutritionist practicing Functional Medicine Nutrition. She graduated with distinction from the University of Western States with a Master's of Science degree in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine and with honors from Mount Madonna Institute College of Ayurveda. Megan's work blends the cutting edge science of Functional Medicine with the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. She employs lifestyle, dietary, and botanical therapies to address the root cause of dysfunction in the body so as to allow the body to self-correct and self-repair. Megan currently serves woman all over the USA consulting at a distance via secure video conferencing in her part-time private practice, Root Vitality. Her clients know her for her compassion, openness, non-judgemental presence and total dedication to supporting their recovery.
Megan also has the very good fortune to serve full time as a Functional Medicine Nutritionist at Stone Medical P.C., in Ashland, Oregon. There, she has the absolute privilege of being mentored by one of the pioneers in Functional Medicine and Functional Nutrition in particular, Dr. Michael Stone, MD, MS., IFMCP. Megan collaborates with Dr. Stone to lead group medical visits and to consult individually with a wide variety of patients at Stone Medical.
Megan focuses her private practice, Root Vitality, in women’s reproductive health and fertility. She feels her Life's work has been and always will be to support and empower women. In her undergraduate years at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Social Sciences, cum lade) she often found herself working to investigate loaded topics such as women's role in the Bible or the phenomena of rape in genocide. She also performed 3 years in a row acting in the "Vagina Monologues" working to raise money for local non-profits supporting women. Upon graduating she volunteered full-time working with AmeriCorps at her local Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention Center. There she supported sexual assault survivors as both a Crisis Services Advocate, advocating for women during forensic examinations immediately following trauma and subsequently, providing counsel in the aftermath. In addition, she served as the Fund Development Coordinator to keep the non-profit running during the height of the US recession in 2008. In her graduate studies at the University of Western States, Megan conducted extensive research for her capstone paper on neutraceutical solutions to treat and reverse endometriosis. She has since enhanced her studies through continuing education in courses in Functional Endocrinology and the Hormone Advanced Practice Module with the Institute for Functional Medicine. Megan has also undergone advanced training in Ayurvedic medicine for supporting a healthy menstrual cycle, fertility, postpartum and pregnancy with Dr. Sarita Shresta, AyuMD, OBGYN and seasoned Ayurvedic midwife, Terra Rafael. Megan's passion to support women's reproductive health also extends to her role as the co-creator and facilitator of the online course Soulful Conceptions: the Complete Mind-Body Fertility Program which offers a synergistic combination of yoga, psychotherapy and age-old Ayurvedic techniques that naturally enhance women's fertility. Finally, Megan collaborated to write the full-length book “Enchanting Beauty,” with Dr. Manisha Kashirsagar (Ayu MD), published with Lotus Press in October of 2015. The book elucidates Ayurvedic strategies for women to cultivate enduring self-love, genuine self-care and true, natural beauty that can only come from within.
In her spare time, you'll find Megan going on long hikes in Southern Oregon mountains, water skiing on beautiful freshwater lakes, singing together in a circle of women, or sipping puerh tea gung fu style and reading fantasy novels aloud with her longtime best friend in the whole wide world (who also happens to be her husband) Andrew Murphy-Rouse, and their four-legged firstborn, Zuka, the coolest cat EVER.
