ABOUT MEGAN

Functional Medicine Nutritionist & Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner

Megan Murphy-Rouse MS, CNS®, LD, CAP, is a Certified Nutrition Specialist® and licensed dietician practicing Functional Medicine Nutrition, as well an a National Ayurvedic Medical Association Board Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner. 

 

Megan graduated with honors from the University of Western States with a Master's of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine where her capstone research focused on nutraceuticals to treat and reverse endometriosis. Prior to getting her Master's degree, Megan lived and worked in residency at Mount Madonna Institute, College of  Ayurveda, from 2009-2012 when she graduated as valedictorian and became a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner (CAP).  Megan is also a Certified Nutrition Specialist,® designating her as having achieved the most rigorous clinical qualifications to perform personalized medical nutrition therapy.

 

Megan's post-graduate studies have been primarily with the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM). She has completed all seven of the advanced practice modules with IFM and is now a candidate to become an IFM Certified Practitioner. Megan's post-graduate training in Ayurvedic medicine has focused on women's reproductive health with Dr. Sarita Shresta, AyuMD, OBGYN and the seasoned Ayurvedic midwife, Terra Rafael. She has since enhanced this focus with additional training in Functional Endocrinology and Infertility.

​Megan’s clinical approach blends the cutting-edge science of Functional Medicine Nutrition with the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. When working with clients, her goal is always to identify the underlying cause(s) of imbalance that are perpetuating dis-ease. For each individual, Megan custom selects the appropriate dietary, lifestyle, nutraceutical, and/or botanical therapies that will allow healing to unfold naturally. Megan's areas of clinical strength and passion lie in women’s reproductive health and infertility as well as in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders. Megan has extensive experience working with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and other GI disturbances and food sensitivities. Megan also has the privilege of working with men and women who are hoping to conceive naturally or with ART.

Outside of her private practice, Megan has had the good fortune to serve as a Functional Medicine Nutritionist to leaders in the field of Functional Medicine. She had the absolute privilege of being mentored by one of the pioneers in Functional Medicine Dr. Michael Stone, MD, MS., IFMCP. who opened the first Functional Medicine primary care clinic in the USA alongside Dr. David Jones. Dr. Stone developed the original Functional Medicine Matrix, and for this great contribution, received the Linus Pauling award.  Megan collaborated with Dr. Stone to lead group medical visits and to consult individually with a wide variety of patients at Stone Medical in Ashaland Oregon from 2018-2023. She has also mentored under the tutelage of Functional Medicine speaker Dr. Filomena Trindade, MD, IMFCP at Saudade Wellness in Santa Cruz CA.

 

In her spare time, you'll find Megan going on long hikes in Southern Oregon mountains, water skiing on beautiful freshwater lakes, singing together in a circle of women, or sipping Puerh tea (gong fu style) and reading her favorite fantasy novels aloud with her best friend and husband, Andrew Murphy-Rouse and their four-legged firstborn, Zuka, the coolest cat EVER.
